Author: Waldemar Gromov, Project manager KTH Racing R6 The unveiling of KTH R6 was a crowdie event. National TV made live broadcast and there were many other reporters and guests who wanted to see our new car. Our Formula Student car of the year, KTH R6, is built on the experience that we gained during past years. We’ve made an analysis of last the competitions and realized that the car’s overall performance and reliability is much more important than advanced additional systems on the car. All the innovations and applications should interplay between to achieve the best result and to make any sense at all. The car is customized for the driver in order to make him safe and confident during the race. The driver’s position was the start point of KTH R6’s design, which we believe is the only way to make driver feel the car properly and get fast laps on the track. Last year, our team has been nominated for the best steering and suspension award. One of the things that judges didn’t like was the poorly fitted components and play of the steering wheel. This year the construction of the steering has been improved to allow better response and feeling of the car. To achieve the highest comfort, the seat is custom-made for the driver, as well as the steering wheel, which is ergonomically suited to display all the important information. KTH R6 has got Launch Control and Traction Control to allow the driver to concentrate on the track and to keep the grip and maximum allowed effect all the time. The manual gearbox has been modified to suit the racing track on the competitions. It got some new functions as well: automatic mode for the acceleration test and semiautomatic for the endurance. In order to fit into the new competition rules we had to give more priority to the fuel efficiency.
